Auto Industry Lost Rs 4,000 Crore in 8 Months Due to Diesel Vehicles Ban: SIAM
The auto industry suffered a loss of Rs 4,000 crore in 8 months following the ban on sale of diesel vehicles in engine capacity of 2,000 cc and above in Delhi and National Capital Region, SIAM President Vinod Dasari said today.The Supreme Court, however, had earlier this month lifted the ban on the registration of such diesel vehicles with one percent environment cess.Speaking at the 58th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Dasari said it was "improper information" supplied to the courts which led to the ban on diesel vehicles.

The ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engines above 2,000cc in Delhi NCR had clearly put a handful of manufacturers in a tight spot.Though the Supreme Court lifted the diesel ban earlier this month in lieu of 1 per cent green cess, the Indian automobile industry collectively suffered substantial losses in the duration - to the tune of ₹ 4,000 crore to be precise.Vinod Dasari, President, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), said the industry suffered a loss of Rs 4,000 crore in 8 months following the ban on registration of diesel vehicles with an engine capacity of 2,000cc or above in Delhi NCR.

Snapshot The SC had imposed a ban on the registration of diesel vehicles over 2000 cc engine capacity in the NCR region in 2015.Vinod K Dasari, President of Siam, announced at a seminar yesterday that this ban had caused the automotive industry a loss of Rs 4,000 crore.An automotive industry captain has said that the ban imposed by the Supreme Court (SC) on the registration of diesel vehicles over 2000 cc engine capacity in the National Capital Region (NCR) cost the industry nearly Rs 4,000 crore in eight months.
